East Anglian HR consultancy MAD-HR has boosted its staff team by four, in the wake of significant client growth across the region.
While the award-winning firm had already been enjoying impressive success across Norfolk, Suffolk and Essex before the pandemic, its founder believes a new ‘Covid Consciousness’ may have sparked greater interest in their professional services.
Now a consultancy of eight staff, the company has a reputation for solid advice and guidance on all matters associated with recruitment, retention, disciplinary procedures and employee wellbeing.
Director Carole Burman says bosses and leaders throughout the East Anglian region have really heightened their focus on employee issues since the first lockdown, and are keen to do more than ever to support their staff.
“I talk about the pandemic as having created a certain kind of ‘Covid Consciousness’ among bosses,” she says.
“That’s not to say any employer wasn’t interested in their staff before, but without a doubt, I believe that leaders throughout East Anglia have become even more keen to be supportive, to understand the needs of their team, to deliver best practice, to hire people on good terms in the right way, and to help people flourish within their job.
“We sense more employers are realising the importance of culture, internal communication and employee engagement.”
This consciousness, Carole says, has seen an uplift in new business for the firm, spanning start-ups, growing charities, tech businesses, hospitality companies, and those in property or professional services.
She adds: “Covid caused many employers – particularly those who weren’t large enough to have their own HR team, or who wanted an outside perspective on issues like furlough – to seek us out as a safe pair of hands to remove their anxiety in difficult circumstances.
“Perhaps for the first time in running their business, they came to see HR as being a whole lot more than just needing to be ‘compliant’.
“It’s as a result of this, that we’ve now hired four new staff in very quick succession over the last few months.”
The four new members of the MAD-HR team are Suzy Glennon, now an HR Consultant for the company; Liz Owers, Head of Client Services; Lorna Kidd, HR Assistant; and Jo Lewry, Office Manager.
Collectively, the new hires all bring decades of experience across the HR sector and are seeking to help Carole and fellow director Charlotte to grow their offering throughout East Anglia.

“We are very much a close-knit team, and I’m certain that the personalities and expertise that these four bring will be a great fit and huge asset to us as we move forward post-pandemic.”
