A globally-renowned Suffolk firm flying the flag for British engineering is celebrating its 50th year in business.
Rendlesham-based CMG Technologies first launched as a fibre optic specialist in 1975, before moving to metal injection moulding (MIM) in the early 2000s.
Today it stands proud as a champion of British engineering and serves a wide range of clients around the world.
The business was originally called Europlus, before rebrands to Egide UK in 2002 and CMG Technologies in 2013 – named after the three directors behind a successful 2013 management buyout, Chris Conway, Dr Phil Marsh and Rachel Garrett.
‘Significant achievement’
Rachel, who is Chris Conway’s daughter, joined the business in 2004 and now serves as Managing Director.
She said: “Today is both a proud moment and significant achievement for our business and everyone who has been involved in its journey over the years.
“Like with every business, we have been on a rollercoaster through the years but have always been lucky to have an incredible team that provides us both stability and innovation to move forward.”
CMG has provided MIM and 3D printing solutions for numerous high-profile clients over the years, having made headlines in the Covid-19 pandemic for its crucial role in producing parts for ventilators.
It has also championed the four-day week under Rachel’s leadership, earning national plaudits as an early pioneer for promoting a healthier work-life balance that has seen profits soar.
‘More years of innovation and teamwork’
The business is now a part of the INDO-MIM group, headed by the world’s largest specialists in MIM technologies.
Rachel added: “One thing that has never changed over the years is our company culture, which is hugely important to us. We’re a close-knit team that supports one another.
“We have shared so many highs and lows together, including the loss of my father in 2018, and are proud to keep his legacy alive through everything we do.
“CMG Technologies are continuing to advance and we look forward to plenty more years of innovation and teamwork.”
