Three local bands have brought festive cheer and generosity to the community, raising an

The talented musicians performed in small groups at various locations across Ipswich, including the high street, major supermarkets such as Waitrose, Morrisons, and Tesco, and Ipswich Hospital on Christmas Day. Their efforts were met with overwhelming generosity from the local community, resulting in a total of £7,238.70 in donations.

The funds were split evenly between Ipswich Hospital Band Ltd and Cancer Support Suffolk. However, thanks to an anonymous donation from one band member, the amount donated to Cancer Support Suffolk was increased to £4,000.

‘Every contribution makes a difference’

Maggie Porter, Engagements Coordinator at Ipswich Hospital Band, said, “We would like to thank the wonderful people of Ipswich for their generosity. Every contribution helps make a real difference, and we are proud to have been part of this fundraising effort.”

Cancer Support Suffolk educates people on the signs and symptoms of cancer and provides support to patients throughout their treatment and beyond. The funds raised will go towards sustaining and expanding these vital services in the local community.

‘Support local cancer patients and their families’

Mark Murphy MBE, CEO of Cancer Support Suffolk, said, “The support from the bands has been incredible. They played in all weathers to entertain the Christmas shoppers in Ipswich, and the money raised will enable us to help support local cancer patients and their families.”

The cheque was formally presented to Cancer Support Suffolk on Monday 10th February 2025, during a band rehearsal.

The bands extend their heartfelt thanks to all who donated, as well as the businesses and venues that hosted their performances. They look forward to continuing their tradition of festive fundraising in the years to come.
