People are at the heart of its business which is one of the reasons Scrutton Bland is committed to bridging the gap between education and the world of work.
As a cornerstone employer, it works closely with local schools and colleges throughout the year where it also holds sessions with students and talks about what a career in the professional services industry could look like.
Over the last year as part of its commitment to building on support for students, it has redeveloped its work experience offering which means that those who join Scrutton Bland will finish their week with them having a greater understanding of the potential avenues they could go down with their career.
They will come away with employability skills, knowledge about the importance of personal branding as well as whether a career in accountancy, audit, internal audit or tax could be something that they see themselves building a career in.
When and where
Scrutton Bland is excited to launch its new work experience programme which is taking place from 8 – 12 July 2024 in our Colchester office and from 5 – 9 August 2024 in its Ipswich office.
The work experience programme is open to everyone including GCSE students, A-level students, Undergraduates or anyone looking to start a career in accountancy.
As part of the week, the cohort will hear first-hand experience from its current students and their teams, who will share their journeys in the world of professional services so far and be able to understand what a role in each of these areas looks like, so that when it comes to applying for a full-time position, they’ll know exactly what they can expect.
Some of the key skills that will be taught as part of the week include communication, working in a team and problem-solving.
‘Various career opportunities’
“Creating pathways for young talent to explore and engage with the professional services industry is a priority for us,” said Georgie Norman, Head of People and Culture. “Our revamped work experience programme is designed to give students a comprehensive and hands-on understanding of various career opportunities within accountancy.
“We want to use the work experience programme as an opportunity for people to understand more about skills all employers are looking for and to help them develop these. From effective communication to managing change and understanding their image and impact in the workplace, we want to deliver sessions that will enhance employability.
“We believe that by investing in the development of these key skills early on, we are not only supporting the future workforce but also fostering a culture of learning and growth within our community.”
