Cycling: 2019 Women’s Tour starts in Suffolk

Suffolk will host the opening stage of the 2019 and 2020 Women’s Tour, the premier cycling event.

It’s the fourth time Britain’s biggest women’s pro-cycling race has started in Suffolk, news that will bring a boost to the economy.

It’s estimated the previous races have attracted more than 250,000 spectators and created a net economic impact for the county of more than £3.5 million.

Full details of the opening stage, and the remainder of the race, will be revealed next month. Last year it was Framlingham that hosted the opening stage, in which American Coryn Rivera came second before going on to win the title.

This year’s event, sponsored by OVO Energy, starts on Monday, 10 June and has added an extra day to six in total.

Race director Mick Bennett said: “We are delighted to be able to confirm that Suffolk will host the OVO Energy Women’s Tour in both 2019 and 2020.

“Suffolk has been involved as a host venue since the first edition in 2014 so the extension of our partnership for a further two editions of the race shows the support in the county for the event and their aims to get more people more active.”
