DPL supports Paras in 75th anniversary 500-mile challenge

Ten soldiers from 3rd Battalion, the Parachute Regiment are on a weighted march from Arnhem to Normandy to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the battles of Normandy and Arnhem.

They are raising money for the regimental charity, Support Our Paras. The route will go from the drop zones of Operation Market Garden in Arnhem, through the Rhine Crossing, Bastogne and the Ardennes battlefields, finishing at Merville Battery in Normandy.

The soldiers are marching with 35lbs rucksack, covering up to 30 miles per day. In support of this campaign, DLP Group Limited based in Ipswich has donated its fun bus to help carry any additional equipment and soldiers to their designated starting point at Arnhem. The bus is also be going along for the ride.

Gary Dinsdale, managing director of DPL Group, which provides electrical installation and maintenance, fire safety, security and renewable energy systems, said: “We are more than delighted to offer our support to the soldiers of the Parachute Regiment.

“They are embarking on a very sobering journey to walk some 500 miles to mark the 75th Anniversary of the battles of Normandy and Arnhem.

“We hope that providing the team with our DPL fun bus and covering the cost of the insurance goes some way to helping them raise lots of money for a very worth-while charity – Support Our Paras.”
