Chris and Susanna Lye, owners of Home Instead Ipswich, Felixstowe and Woodbridge, are thanking their caring team for their dedication throughout the pandemic.

The couple established the local home care company in 2009, which provides companionship-led care to local older people in the comfort of their own homes. The local business is part of a franchise network of 230+ offices across the UK, who are sector leaders both in-home care and in franchise.

The team at Home Instead Ipswich has grown their client base by over 20 percent over the past year, whilst maintaining an ‘outstanding’ rating by the care regulator on the quality of care.

With 15 office staff, including a general manager, head of care and a head of people, alongside over 100 caregivers, Chris and Susanna have built a team they can trust. Building up a culture of quality, they are also proud to boast an incredible staff-retention rate with the majority of their caregivers and office team have been with them for many years, including their original care manager- a phenomenal achievement within the sector.

Susanna comments: “Although we have had our challenges over the years, we have grown our business significantly, and we are proud of the quality of care our team provides across the local area. We couldn’t achieve such success without our amazing team, who we have taken with us as we have grown. We are passionate about building a culture which nurtures our team members’ wellbeing and learning, and provides real career development opportunities.”

When Chris and Susanna launched the business, Home Instead had only been operating in the UK for a few years. Chris comments: “I found Home Instead at a franchise exhibition in London, and when I began speaking to the team, I instantly knew this was what I wanted to do- so we took a leap of faith and set up here in Ipswich. Their enthusiasm for providing quality home care really shone through, and I knew I aligned with the Home Instead ethos, believed in the brand and really wanted to make a difference.”

Chris and Susanna have built the business up over the past twelve years, and they can now ‘work on the business’, rather than ‘in the business’. The pair set up the business whilst raising two young children, and were greatly aided by the support provided by a franchise model.

Chris says: “We put a lot of ourselves into the business in the early stages, which is essential for a start-up business, and we believed in our own abilities to grow and succeed. We really focused on developing the quality, and now the franchise’s success is a reward for doing what we do.”

Chris and Susanna have demonstrated the huge potential a home care franchise has in the area, and are surprised there aren’t more offices across the East of England. Susanna comments: “It’s an area with huge demand for high-quality home care, and potential Home Instead franchisees could grow successful businesses in the area. There is now a great peer support system through our neighbouring offices in Essex and in Norfolk, so new franchisees would benefit from existing franchisees experience and knowledge- both of the area, and the sector.

“With an ageing population, home care is an ever-growing sector and with an amazing level of support provided by national office, opening a Home Instead office lets you build a successful business which really makes a difference to the lives of others. Chris and I have owned our franchise for twelve years now and are looking forward to the next twelve!”

Chris comments: “We have always received exceptional support from national office, but throughout our 12 years with Home Instead, the level at which the national office has grown and innovated the brand has been astronomical. They have grown the network to over 230 offices, launched national television advertising and partnerships with national charities, and are slowly becoming a household name.”

Home Instead is hosting a regional discovery day in Suffolk on 28th July at Novotel in Ipswich, where individuals who are interested in opening a management franchise can find out more about the opportunity and the territories available. Imogen Clarke, head of franchise development at Home Instead will be there to answer any questions you may have and provide a wealth of information about the leading home care franchise in the UK.
