West Suffolk Council has given the go-ahead for Sealey to build a large new warehouse in Bury St Edmunds.
Working with local architects Wincer Kievenaar, plans for a new purpose-built 200,000 square ft warehouse and ancillary office accommodation were submitted in May last year. Now that permission has been granted, focus can turn to the construction phase on the site; located on Suffolk Business Park, adjacent to Sealey’s existing sites in Kempson Way.
Currently, two businesses operate out of Kempson Way; Sealey, which has been trading for over 40 years, and sells tools and equipment to dealers across the UK, who in turn supply the automotive, engineering, agricultural markets, and Dellonda, which supplies home, garden and leisure products direct to the consumer via on-line channels.
Mark Sweetman, Group Projects Director for Sealey & Dellonda is delighted with the news and said: “With the project being given the go-ahead, we can now move forward with confidence.
“As one of the largest private-sector employers in the town, with 430 employed by Sealey and 16 people employed by Dellonda, both businesses have seen significant growth over the last year. This new development will provide us with the increased space we need to accommodate additional stockholding, as well as the anticipated extra staff we will need to employ. The growth of both businesses will also generate opportunities for those who are already part of our team to progress their careers.”
Wincer Kievenaar will be leading the delivery of the construction project and Director Craig Western said: “We have worked with Sealeys on many projects over the last couple of decades and we have seen the company go from strength to strength. When creating the designs for the new warehouse and ancillary office accommodation, we have focused on ensuring that, not only is there plenty of parking and cycling facilities, but the finished building seeks to seamlessly integrate all the Sealey portfolio of buildings within the Suffolk Business Park.”
In the future, once construction is complete, Sealey will be looking to expand and refurbish its current premises on Kempson Way, which are now over 20 years old.
