Su Allen, a highly experienced HR practitioner and recent transplant to Suffolk from sunny Bedfordshire, is realising a professional and personal dream.
Experienced in probate, conveyancing and property management prior to moving into the world of recruitment and then human resources, Su established and ran small, medium and large HR functions, and devised and ran management training courses for companies such as Tesco, Debenhams and the John Laing group.
Through her roles, Su came to appreciate that managing the requirements of Employment Law could be time consuming, complex and stressful for business owners, not to mention costly if even a small mistake was made.
Realising that her qualifications, knowledge and experience could bring something of great value to businesses struggling with these concerns, she set out on her own, launching Su Allen HR in 2002.
Fast forward 18 years, and the business has grown to comprise a team of qualified and experienced Human Resources Consultants, providing a commercially minded outsourced HR services to businesses of all sizes, with clients predominantly based across Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire, Buckinghamshire and London.
A great admirer and regular visitor to the Suffolk region, Su maintained a long-held dream of moving to the area full time. Professionally, it also offered the possibility of serving a broader client base in the East of England.
Opportunity presented itself in 2019 and plans for a move to Suffolk, while setting up satellite offices in Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire, got well underway. However, relocating a head office in Spring of 2020 brought with it some challenges, as you can well imagine!
Pandemic notwithstanding, Su successfully relocated to Saxmundham, Suffolk, arriving directly in the UK’s lockdown period.
Lockdown hasn’t slowed Su down, though. Using remote methods and working with her team that spans several counties, she has continued to serve her clients, in addition to supporting them through the challenges of adjusting to new Covid-19 Regulations, furlough and more.
Now that many companies are tentatively reopening, and learning how to operate under this new world order, Su is looking forward to meeting with and welcoming new clients from the Suffolk region. When not supporting clients in HR activities, Su can be found engaging in the arts, food and music scenes, and indulging in beach walks with her beautiful Cairn terrier and company mascot, Toffee.
