Since the Chancellor, Rishi Sunak’s announcement in July regarding the Stamp Duty Holiday, the housing market has seen a surge in business with Rightmove reporting a ten year high in July, with figures released highlighting a 38% increase in the same period last year.

Attwells has remained open throughout the pandemic and has moved more than 200 people a month safely at the height of the pandemic. However, client meetings have been via Zoom and more recently by appointment only. This was to protect their clients and staff members as the guidance changed and evolved.

However, in Ipswich where Attwells primarily service there are 1,073 properties on the market currently making demand for excellent conveyancing high. As most people only buy or sell their home every 23 years it’s likely even second time buyers or those downsizing will require face to face reassurance and the ability to pop in with documents.

Managing Partner Nick Attwell explains: “It’s been a very challenging few months for everyone, particularly for those who were hoping to move in March and April. Attwells took a unique approach of working with their clients to maintain an experienced conveyancing team during the height of the pandemic and that means that our clients have been able to move and their matters are much more advanced than those who closed or offered a limited service.

“At Attwells we pride ourselves on offering jargon-free law which has been difficult with our doors closed even if we were not. Consequently, I’m pleased to announce the re-opening of our offices from 7th September which will allow us to resume the high level of customer service we are renowned for.”

Going forward it is widely predicted that the housing market will remain strong for the rest of the year resulting in a sharp but quick recession and a recovery in 2021.
