Businesses in Ipswich are being urged to sign up for an innovative Lunch and Lean workshop, courtesy of local fitness firm Stoic Performance.

The interactive 30-minute lunchtime seminars are an opportunity for local businesses to engage in proactive health and wellbeing initiatives. In 2017/18, up to 34.3 million days of productivity were lost due to staff sickness and absences, so it’s increasingly important that firms start to invest into strategies which support their staff to live as healthily as possible.

The free Lunch and Lean workshops are the brainchild of Stoic Performance founder Sam Cleaver, who believes that its “vital” that organisations lead by example and do what they can to facilitate healthy habits.

He said: “Working culture has led to a society whereby we suffer from heavy workloads and high levels of stress. Combined with easy access to vending machines full of sugary and calorific snacks and a tendency to rely upon caffeine to get us through the day, it’s easy to see why today’s workforces are increasingly unhealthy.

“I believe that it’s vital that employers start to consider how they can instil good habits into their staff. If not, in the next few years, we’ll be heading into an unmanageable health crisis on a national scale.”

As part of the Lunch and Lean workshop, Sam will visit local businesses during their lunch break (or a time convenient to them) and provide a short interactive seminar on a choice of topics focusing upon health, wellbeing, stress management, nutrition or fitness. Each seminar will provide practical tips on how to make small changes to improve employee health as well as an opportunity to answer any questions that staff may have on matters relating to health and fitness.

Each seminar is free of charge, and Sam has a variety of subjects including (but not limited to):

  • Stress management: how stress can negatively impact your physical and mental health
  • How to combine a busy workload with a healthy lifestyle
  • How to use food and nutrition to guide our overall health
  • What makes a good workout programme: myth-busting the Instagram effect

Participants in the Lunch and Lean programme can also gain access to Sam’s catalogue of downloadable healthy-eating recipe books and ‘survival guides’ to high street chains including Nando’s, Costa, McDonalds and Greggs.

Sam added: “Next year, more than 50% of workforces will be filled by the Millennial generation, and research shows that this is the generation most likely to engage with healthy workplace initiatives. Therefore, it makes sense that businesses start to consider how they are going to incorporate new strategies which meet the changing needs of their employees.”

The Lunch and Lean workshops are free to businesses, and each seminar can be tailored to the specific needs of that individual organisation.
