Suffolk’s highest individual earner is probably… a horse

Forget industrial titans or internet tycoons, Suffolk’s highest wage earner is likely to be Frankel, the retired racehorse.

It’s been revealed the retired thoroughbred commands stud fees of £175,000 multiple times a day at his Newmarket home during the breeding season.

And experts say those earnings could amount to £15 million a year, dwarfing the earning power of everyone else in the county!

Speaking from Banstead Manor stud, Frankel’s doting handler Rob Bowley described how the prized stallion was kept incredibly busy during the breeding season – multiple times a day for £175,000.

It’s not unknown for some stallions to be “kept busy” four times a day!

Frankel’s numerous offspring have already gone on to great things on the racecourse, including Cracksman.

Frankel himself was unbeaten in a glittering 14-race career and was the world’s top-rated horse from 2011.

But while it’s probably true he’s Suffolk’s highest earner, schoolboys everywhere will be disappointed his “stud” profession is not one offered by any careers advice service.
