From a property developer to a military veteran and a former secretary who made a career change in her early 40s – the team at Prettys come from a range of different backgrounds.
Despite their differences, they all share the same vision – to provide specialist legal advice that is tailored specifically to each client.
Maria Spencer is just one example of the new talent the firm are investing in.
Currently a trainee solicitor, Maria has completed her Legal Practice Course (LPC) and is now focusing on becoming fully qualified.
She is currently undertaking her first seat with the firm and hopes to complete her training contract next year.
Her journey to becoming a solicitor has been different from most. She did not follow the traditional route to qualifying, instead choosing to study an undergraduate degree in Politics and International Relations.
She returned to university on completion of her degree and undertook the Graduate Diploma in Legal Studies (GDL), a course allowing non-law graduates to convert to a legal career path.
Maria said Prettys have been hugely supportive through her training, giving her the flexibility to study while working.
She said: “I feel like I’m right where I want to be in terms of my career, I’m looking forward to completing my training contract and progressing within the firm.
“It didn’t matter that my undergraduate degree wasn’t in law, my decision to follow a different educational path didn’t hinder my application to join the firm.
“My journey to qualifying with Prettys hasn’t been centred on grades which has been really refreshing.
“I have been able to work full time and gain a masters in Law with the help of Prettys and have always felt that they have been fully committed to helping me develop my career.”
Since joining the firm in 2018 as a paralegal and working with the Employment team, Maria has trained on the job. She enrolled onto the Legal Practice Course (LPC) part-time, allowing her to complete her formal studies while gaining valuable experience in the workplace over two years.
