MISTREE: architectural cooling installation combines evaporative mist with programmable lighting

MISTREE, a new large-scale architectural cooling installation designed in Suffolk for public spaces and high temperature urban environments, is now being introduced to architects, developers, and public realm designers.

Combining ultra-fine evaporative misting with programmable DMX lighting, the stainless-steel structure has been developed to create cooler, more engaging outdoor spaces while establishing a striking sculptural presence within the built environment.

Standing over 5 metres tall and fabricated from marine-grade stainless steel, MISTREE delivers lowenergy evaporative cooling through a network of precision misting nozzles integrated within its branch structure.

By day, the installation creates a localised cooling microclimate that improves comfort and
encourages longer dwell time in exposed urban environments. After dark, integrated programmable LED lighting transforms the installation into an illuminated architectural landmark.

Key Features

  • Ultra-fine evaporative misting for outdoor thermal comfort
  • Programmable DMX-controlled lighting system
  • Low-energy operation with optional solar integration
  • Modular layouts including single feature trees, avenues, and clustered “orchard” installations
  • Designed for public spaces, hospitality environments, waterfronts, civic plazas, and events

The project has been developed from a Suffolk-based collaboration between designers Barron Gould Studio, precision manufacturer Electronic Terminations Ltd (part of The Roland Group), and lighting engineer Tom Taylor.

Together, the team sought to create an installation that responds to the growing challenge of urban heat while maintaining a refined architectural presence.

“We wanted to create something that responds to climate while still feeling elegant and sculptural,” said John Gould, designer of MISTREE, who previously contributed to the design and construction of the Princess Diana Memorial Fountain. “Too often, cooling infrastructure is hidden away or purely functional. We wanted to create something that becomes part of the identity and atmosphere of a space.”

The installation is designed for hot-climate urban environments, including the Middle East, Southern Europe, Australia, hospitality developments, and public waterfronts, where rising global temperatures are reshaping how cities approach outdoor comfort and public space design.

“MISTREE is about much more than cooling,” said Barrie Hayter, Sales Director at Electronic
Terminations Ltd. “It’s an engineered architectural installation designed to improve outdoor comfort while creating a striking visual presence.”

MISTREE is available for permanent architectural installation as well as temporary event deployment through a plug-and-play hire configuration. Additional information, technical specifications, and project enquiries can be found on the business website.
