The new managing director of a specialist foundry and engineering company near Woodbridge says customers “get a kick from buying British”.
Adam Dalby, 32, who took over at Brafe Engineering early this year, said the company was proud to represent British manufacturing on the world stage, supplying specialist parts to firms across the globe.
Mr Dalby said British manufacturing produces the best products in the world – and more should be done to sing its praises.
He said: “We need more businesses in the UK that manufacture goods.
“If there’s one thing our customers learned recently is the impact of a globalised supply chain and what happens when you disrupt those supply chains.
“UK businesses should take great comfort in being able to drive just a short distance to visit a company you are working with and to know the quality of the products will be the best in the world.
“As a country, we shouldn’t be overly reliant on products from low-cost regions.
“I am biased of course, but I believe our customers get a kick out of buying British products.
“We are very good at making things in Britain, the quality of our goods are second to none.”
Brafe, which is proud to be part of the Made in Britain initiative, supplies a range of precision-engineered and high specification metal alloy castings to companies across the globe, including to the Nuclear, defence, energy, environmental control, and petrochemical sectors.
The company was formed in 1966 in Martlesham, moving to its current home just outside Woodbridge in 1989.
The business is employee-owned, meaning every staff member has a vested interest in the company’s success.
Mr Dalby said he was proud Suffolk is playing its part in showing off Britain’s engineering prowess.
“I don’t think it is a coincidence that a number of Formula 1 teams are based in the UK,” he said.
“We also have the likes of Rolls Royce, BAE systems – there’s something very special about Britain and what we can produce.”
