Applications flood in for Bury St Edmunds hotel roles

Bury St Edmunds Travelodge manager, Graham Atkins

Anyone who suggests there’s a shortage of people looking for jobs in the hotel industry should take note of this news from the new Bury St Edmunds Travelodge.

The hotel giant’s new premises is due to open in Etna Road this spring, and it was deluged with applications when it advertised for staff recently.

Hotel manager Graham Atkins said he was looking to fill 24 roles and quickly received over 500 applicants.

The jobs were for an assistant hotel manager, as well as housekeeping, reception staff and a bar-cafe.

“I am overwhelmed by the amazing response I have received for the 24 positions I advertised to help build my new hotel team,” said Mr Atkins.

He said he was looking for team players who were passionate about customer service, and that the roles had now been filled.

The successful applicants are already receiving training at Travelodge hotels in Cambridge and Haverhill as the business looks to ramp up its launch plans.

The 80 rooms at the £8 million Travelodge Bury St Edmunds are expected to start at as little as £27 a night.
