Number of companies in Suffolk passes 40,000 for first time

Latest figures show that Suffolk is now home to more than 40,000 companies for the first time – despite the considerable challenges posed by the Coronavirus pandemic.

Currently registered in the county are 40,710 businesses according to company secretarial software specialists Inform Direct, based on statistics from Companies House and the Office for National Statistics.

Leading the way are Ipswich (7,574), followed by St Edmundsbury (6,557) and   Suffolk Coastal (6,425).

The milestone announcement follows Suffolk’s success in 2020 when it hit a record high for company formations for the third year in a row, with 5,105 new businesses established.
